I have a friend who got an ebay BOV and doesn't have a turbo car anymore. He said he would give it to me for my mr2. I think it's a blitz style, but not a name brand. Should I bother with installing it, or leave it alone?
I know all the arguments for and against bovs, and am prepared to run rich between shifts and whatnot. I am more concerned with the grey market matter of the ebay bov. What would happen if it were to break? Are we looking at terminal or serious damage, or just stalling until I can put the factory bpv back on?
Everything else is stock except for a universal muffler left over from my n/a. It's a 92. Any help and advice is always appreciated. Thanks in advance!
If it gets stuck in the open position, you will stall badly. Maybe not even stay started. Same if it's slow to respond opening and closing.
If it gets stuck in the closed position, you will have alot of pressure going back to the turbo. That could do some damage....
You can put it on and check how well it functions while working the throttle by hand. That would tell you much... Then you could make a decision about whether to keep it on before taking it out on the open road...
just cuz its off ebay, does not mean its rubbish. like MR2BAD said, if you want to use it, just test it out real quick then make your decision.
no point in arguing for or against BOV's, its a matter of personal choice ...

Thanks for the input guys. Knightfall, I am not concerned with the small performance loss as I said in my first post. I'm not out street racing or even going to the track, so it's not a huge deal. Like mooglex said, it's a matter of personal choice. I happen to really like the sound of a bov and want to see what it's like to have one of my own.
couple quick things,
1. nice red 2. might want to blur out your plates. specially if your advertising what you have done to the car.. dont want to invite thieves.
2. both your link and your sig. say yours is N/A... what are you putting the BOV on? or is it for future mods?

It does say " Now With Boost" in his sig.. I assumed he meant turbo'ed or swap...but if not, yeah, where is the BOV going ?

I think you may be suprised at how terrible some MR2's run with out recirculating it. What I Highly recomend before you buy/install an aftermarket BPV/BOV is just open the OEM one up and buy a rubber stopper and plug in the now existing hole in the intake pipe. The problem is the ECU counts on that air being supplied by the BPV and therefore if you plug the hole and vent it then what you have is a car that will be pig rich everytime you shift. I tried it once...My car stalled when taking off and stalled when under higher boost and shift. And over all ran like a piece of crap. So I'm not saying that is how your MR2 will act but all I'm saying is it takes 5 minutes to find out before you start ripping crap out of your car and replacing it with something you may be very unhappy with. If you want to have the sound its a really easy fix just buy an AEM stand alone, MAP sensor and trash the MAF otherwise I wouldn't do it.
Yeah, I got the turbo swap done in February, I'm just too lazy to update my cardomain page. I haven't even looked at it in a year.
Ntr880, I've been told that it's a really easy part to swap out, so if it runs bad, I'll go back with the stock setup. A stand alone computer and all that stuff costs a lot more than something I'm getting for free, so I'm going to try it first. When I get around to doing upgrades and stuff I'm going to get a computer, but on my stock motor, I don't really need it yet.

Thats alot to just get the sound. and uneccessary. the BOV only takes about 15 minutes to install. and only a few more minutes to test. I've had my BOV on for over 3 years. No problems whatsover. And it doesn't run pig rich.
I just got it today and aside from a seriously defective gasket, everything looks good. The only problem I have now is, I have NO IDEA what I'm doing as far as installing it. This is the first turbo I've ever owned or worked on, so it's all new to me.
MR2bad, I know you've got a bov on your 91. Could you post a couple of pics or give me a rundown of what I have to do? I looked at you cardomain page and couldn't really tell what I need to do. (looks awesome, by the way )
It's a knock off, I think it's supposed to be Blitz but I'm not sure. I was looking at it a little and I'm not sure of a couple of things.
This is gonna sound incredibly dumb, but here goes. Where does it go? I thought it was where the piping kind of circles back towards the intake, but there is nowhere to mount it. The bov has a flange on it that looks like it would fit on the end of the intake manifold. Is that where it goes, or what? I feel dumb. It's kinda hard to tell from your cardomain pic where it is, since I don't know what yours looks like. And I get distracted by shiny things.
It goes right where your stock one is. Directly after the turbo.... it's the only piece connected to the hotpipe. There is a small bolt on the underside of it. If you do not have an MR2 flange you will either have to weld it on (good luck reversing that)..... or find an adapter that fits your knock off blow off valve.
I personally wouldn't do it. But everyone else has already told you that and you aren't listening.... so I'll just keep quiet .
I'm not going to use it. I need some kind of adapter that would need to be welded like you said, Ish. I don't want to do anything irreversible at this point, with the stock turbo and all. Oh well. Thanks anyways for the input.
