DIVORCE,,,,MR2, no start,...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Hello, Im new to this forum. I have a question, my father has a 95 MR2 NA 5 speed, with only 55k miles that has stopped running. The car sat for over 5 years until recently {about 3 months ago} when he decided to start driving it. Before driving it he filled the tank with fresh gas then he drove it on and off for about two days and about 30 miles. He got up one morning after driving the car the previous day and tried to crank it and no luck. The engine would turn over, but not fire. He checked the timing belt, fuel pump, and changed the fuel pump filter, still no dice. After he and a friend worked on the car they found that the distributor wasn't firing. They pulled the distributor and while it was held upright {with the key on} it would fire to the plugs, then when the distributor was turned back horizontally {in the original position} it wouldn't fire.He is a retired mechanic, but not up-to-date with fuel inj systems. A few mechanic friends told him that the dist. for that particular motor was bad about failing and that the rebuilt dist. like the ones sold by Autozone, Advance, etc. would not work either, only dist. from Toyota would work. In having said that he has tried two rebuilt units, one from O'Reilys, and one from NAPA with no luck. Is there anything else it possibly could be, and is there really a problem with the distributors? The biggest problem is that the car belongs to his so-to-be ex-wife. She is going to say that he purposely sabotaged the car and then she will keep his 99 Corvette {Corvette in his name, MR2 in hers}. The court date is soon, Im just trying to make sure he isn't wasting time with the wrong thing......thanks, Mike U>
