I'm a 17 yr old kid and I just bought My 1st car a 1991 Toyota MR2 Turbo
Heyy, what's up everyone!!!
I'm new to this website and to this online advice community thing, it seems pretty cool cause all of us ahve something in common other than our cars. I'm 17 years old tuning 18 in 2 weeks and I just got my 1st car, a1991 Toyota MR2 Turbo. It has 142k miles it's black the engine runs good , then interior is in great shape and the exterior is an 7 out of a 10.
I bought is from a middle age guy who bought it for his wife as a gift and the wide saw it and said she wanted a corvette and not that piece of crap lol (yeah I laughed too when I 1st heard it). anyway, I know some stuff about cars, my dad is a mechanic & dealer and so is my brother, I'm the baby of the family and I don't know a LOT about mechanics but I do know something about detailing and maintenance and the basic automotive things. I bought the car today for $2,400 , He said he paid $3300 for it, but since it was going to be my first car He'd let it go, I'm excited, but he said that the car needs some work. this is what I noticed the car needs done:
The brakes need to be done, e-brake doesn't work, A/C doesn't work,THe temperature gauge goes up and down, even when you 1st start up the car, it goes all the way up to H,He said he doesn't know what happened to the odometer, the little needle that tells you how fast you're going doesn't work. the antenna is ripped off and it needs a headlight......and to be honest what worries me the most are these two lights that came on the dash, one of them was already on when I bought the car which is the low-oil warning light and looks like this: . I know that light means low oil level, but I checked the oil and the car was JUST serviced and the oil level is fine.
And the second light, came on about after 10 mins of driving the car in the highway. I think it's for cooling problem. but I'm not sure what it means, it looks like this: .
When I was putting gas on it last night, I tonices there was cooling/antifrreeze fluid leaking from the engine. I checked the coolant lever on the radiator and it was fine.
Since I don't know much about cars, and my dad and my bro are ALWAYS working, I thought I'd ask someone who also owns an MR2 so please if you guys could send me some suggestions to my e-mail address Robyn923@aol.com or just send me a message through this website. Thank you very much for your help I really appreciate it!
If its leaking coolant then theres no refuting it with the level of coolant. I would check the temperature sensor and get yourself a new gauge cluster.
+1 to that. Get used to driving a RWD midship platform before doing anythign drastic with it. Take it to an abandoned lot or huge parking lot and go nuts with it.
^ good answer and always willing to help..lol
Welcome to TN Robyn.. and congrats on your 2 . After you get the bugs out, you will love it. but take the others advice seriously about getting to know and respect your MR2..
I see you have a blow off valve.. Does make a swoosh sound when you shift?
You do have some issues but they are minor. We will help ...
hmong..did you get those equips off timberland??....
Yes I did budd. He switched over to buddyclub coilovers and the equips didn't fit his car anymore... He had no choice but to sell them to me (I bugged him to sell ever since he got them). They look better on my car anyways since I'm stock bodied and his is kitted.
What size are your equips? version 1's or 2's? Mine are version 1's.
