'91 JDM ct26 questions

Hey dudes,

I may be able to get a JDM ct26 ceramic turbo off a 91 import MR2. Would this be a single entry or dual entry turbo? I am looking to put it on an n/a 85 landcruiser . I have been told it should bolt right onto my 3BT (3.4L diesel) exahust manifold as it had a ct26 as well.
So if it is single entry it should bolt right on? If it is dual entry will it match with the 4 to 1 manifold and I just won't get the advantage of the dual entry?

Thanks

All 3sgte CT26's are Twin Entry with the exception of ones that came in the ST165 Celicas. You should probably look into getting a rebuilt CT26 off of a 3rd gen Supra..... the MR2 CT26 is way too small for your application.

General consesus of cruiser heads is that a mr2 turbo is more desirable. Supra turbos are way too big apparently.

For a 3.4L diesel???? Even the stock 3sgte flows too much for the CT26..... I dunno.... I know nothing about Land Cruisers.... it just seems like way too small of a turbo. Even some of the MR2 guys run Supra CT26 compressors for more power.

I have to agree with ishcloeobo.. The MR2 3sgte 2.0 ltr engine can outflow this turbo. I would think a 3.4 would do that easily. A recpie for detonation...

I'm not looking for huge power. I just want to be blowing a bit into it (say 6 to 10 psi) while I am cruising down the highway @ 2000rpm. I want peak psi anywhere between 2200rpm and 3000rpm. Something that spools really fast too. This is for low end torque on a 4x4 machine.

This is what I am trying to emulate for as cheap as possible. http://www.axtturbo.com.au/toy3B.html
The AXT kit goes for about $6000 to $8000!

No worries about the dual entry though. I have also just got my hands on a seized supra turbo, so I will throw the MR2 guts into the casing. If I'm not happy with it, I can rebuild the supra.

Another question I have is about the ceramic. Just how brittle is it? If it goes offroading in a clattery, rattley old diesel do you think it could just reach a point of too much vibrational stress and crack or shatter?

The turbo in good condition are very sturdy and robust. They do have to be able to turn
100,000 RPM's. I truely don't know about their off road capabilities. The guys do use them in off road races. Though I'm thinking you're talking about some serious 4 wheeling thru rough terrain.
The CT26 generally spools at about 3300rpm's.
Are you talking about a complete car when you mentioned the Supra Turbo or just the turbocharger ? just curious...

MR2BAD, it is just the turbo. Apparently it is seized?!

Because of the twin entry, I am thinking of mating the exaust side of the supra housing to the mr2 compressor side. Is this feasable? I have read that it has been done before for another cruiser. Would I have to get it balanced afterwards?

I have heard of this being done. And I would think that it would need to be balanced.
