I'm about 16, I plan to start working next summer.
Give or take I think I can earn enough money for a semi good mileage, great running AW11. But I'm wondering if the MR might be a bit to much to handle. Here are my reason for considering and some fears.
Pros
1.Great Mileage(For none Supercharged version), I hear about 38+ Miles to the gallon.
2.Great Engines, I hear these things lasting over 200k.
3.Easy to control. I know MRs as being a somewhat easy car to control.
4.PRICE! I see good ones for under about 1.8k. So thats a good price range for me.
Cons
1.Snap Oversteer, I hear alot of stories of the MR2 being quite unforgiving about this. So thats something I fear.
2.I'm not sure if this is a con or pro. But maintenance cost, since MRs are different from the common FF and FR.
I also what to know if it wouldn't be a bad starter car. The SW20 just seems deadly from the stories I hear. But overall I'm not too sure.
The motors for those cars both supercharged or non are great and will last a long time. The maintenance would be around the same as any car as long as everything is in good working order.

Oh, I see. I just hear of it in reviews/stories etc.
Thats pretty neat to hear, the fear of maintenance was the fact that its a MR. Meaning things in the car are different from the common FF cars that we see on the road. Over all, how do you think the car would be for a newer driver.
I know the AW11 has less power then the SW20. I also know that really doesn't mean a whole lot. But how do you think it would be for my first car(Not to drive, but to own)?
I would look into insurance and make sure you arent going to get totally screwed.
Then only things I would say about it being a first car is you would have to respect it and the only con I can think of is it only has 2 seats and a smaller trunk.
I have driven an AW11 for a while and now I have a SW20 so if you have anymore questions I might be able to help you out.

I don't plan to have more then two people in it at a time(Including the driver). I'm not the shopping type, I would most likely get a small amont of things at a time(Talk about food, that sort of thing).
I want to know, is/was the AW11 Supercharged or not? If it was, what kind of mileage did you get with it?

Pros.
1. Yes... MKI's get great gas mileage.
2. Most Toyota engines are known to last quite a long time if you treat them right.
3. No.... you're drunk. MR is probably the most difficult configuration to drive.
4. They are over 20 years old.... of course they are going to be cheap .
Cons.
1. I don't think MKI's have this "issue"..... this only applies to Pre-93 MKII's..... and if you aren't retarded it really won't harm you.
2. Maintenance will be more than your average car.... people that don't know the car don't like working on them. Find yourself an MR2 specialist and make friends .

I meant to handle, I have droven some cars that are quite difficult to handle.
Easy to control also means to be able to move about with little problems.

Control where??? Around a corner or in a parking lot. MR's are much more difficult to handle because of their weight transfer tendencies..... they handle great as long as you know what you're doing.

After driving lets say a pickup, the thing is hard to handle. Its not that great for steering. Just want something that I can turn the wheel and get something that isn't a full rotation of the steering wheel.

That's not handling.... but okay. Most cars built after 1823 have power steering.... plus the MR2 is light, small and has small tires..... very easy to turn in lots.

Ok, you make it sound like the car handles like a boat. That was one of the things I don't like. Is a car that is hard to steer(I remember driving a 300, the thing just was hard to steer.). Thats why I asked.
