lil' update....

for any of you who have no idea what I'm talking about.... this was my starting point (no, I did not make the engine look like a clown's anus after it had eaten all of it's makup):

and currently:

intake mounted turbo, hand built the mounting brackets, the heat shield is unfinished, alternator using a 4afe bracket and a modified rx7 slider bracket, and the 4age throttle body was modified to fit in a different direction - so the coolant lines for the idle air control valve don't melt next to the exhaust that will route in the vicinity

the supra 440's are installed, new timing belt installed, and the valve covers & intake manifold were sandblasted then cleared

and your gonna need to put that timing belt cover back on... you get debris in between your cam gears and belt and you gonna expedite the wear on that belt... i'd hate to see that motor break... it seems like alot of work has been put into it.

i'm planning on putting it back on....

but in all honesty i'm not too concerned....

1) the engine is non interference...

2) especially in mr2's, the only thing that might get in there is a little bit of dust.... hence the name "dust shield".... if anything big gets in there it's because something on the car broke, and I have bigger problems to deal with at that point....

3) i've driven most of my 4a cars w/o the top dust cover on..... the ae92, the wifes aw11, my old s/c mr2..... ranging from 5k-50k without it on and no issues.....

4) if the belt breaks from dust, that means I was overlooking it for WAY too long....

so, yeah, it's a good idea to put it back on but in reality there's no danger to not having it.

i'm just saying from from experience...

sandy road... rocks or sandget caught up in there.... and even be able to fall down to the crank gear

this is a bigger problem w/ inline 4 cylinders where the cams gears face the front of the car.

i was just sharing some personal experience... but if your confident because of yours.... thats cool... motor looks good.
