Car keeps shutting off?

Lately my '86 MR2 has been shutting off on its own. like when i'm at a stop light or parked while the car is on or trying to reverse it starts jerking and shaking and then shuts off. i start it back up again and then it drives fine. i changed the spark plugs, the oil, fuel filter but havent changed the spark plug wires yet. Could this be it??

Possibly. When's the last time you checked your fuel filter?

What does the car idle at when you're in gear if you know. Maybe your idle is set too low and once in gear it drops to far down for the motor to keep running while trying to push the car?

If that is the case then just use a flat headed screwdriver and turn it up a little bit. If it doesn't do it when you've got the AC on then I would try that because AC will kick the engine idle up relay on and supply more power for the AC compressor.

If that doesn't work then start looking at your vacume lines, burp the coolant system, check the transmission fluid, make sure your air filter isn't stuffed up with dirt.

I'm out myself cause I'm falling asleep. Keep us posted on the issue.
