88 Mr2 q's

I ran across this 88' Mr2 NA, 5 spd and it only has 85k miles on the car. I wanted to know what the blue book value would be? The interior and exterior is in fairly good condition. I hate to say this here but I have a Del Sol, it's probably nothing like the Mr2, and the sound of a rear wheel drive 2 seater is interesting. What would be a reasonable price on this 88' Mr2? Thanks in advance.

ps. I did own a 5th generation Celica at one time. Looking to swap in a motor in there as soon as I can find a mechanic.

The MK1 MR2's are far supperior to the Del sol in handling and power performance. Its good that you look at the car for its potential.

The Kelly Blue book is total bullshit when it comes to pricing our cars. A good condition MR2 like the one you describe is as "Fair" is only worth $900-$1400. Which is totally wrong.

MR2's one of the greatest performing production economy cars of the 80's it even outperforms alot of todays sports cars.

Thanks Modifier. I've always driven FWD cars all my life. I purchased the Del Sol for reasons other than racing. I think I'll take the Mr2 for a test drive. It's black, with leather seats, 5sp... I am really looking forward to it. I am sure you'll see me around here a bit more. Thanks again.

.

it's more difficult to price these cars...... KBB is based off of a fair market value based the economy that car creates....

however.... that doesn't mean that there are outliers for these vehicls.

It isn't uncommon to see $5,000+ mint condition s/c cars... but those are s/c cars.

The n/a aw11's are about right when looking at the pricing.... but that also depends on where you live and what kind of condition the car is in based on the others in the area (ie, if you have a mint condition no rust car on the east coast then it's worth more).

I would say the car is worth no more than $2,000 from a realistic standpoint.

The guy selling the car lives 4/5 hours away. So far the pictures are turning out great. Looks like the owner of the car has been taking good care of it. Interior looks good, a few dings on the exterior, something you'd expect from a 20 yr old car. He's given me a very fair price. I just need to find the time outside of my school work to go pick up the car.

well to give you an idea.... here in WA we don't have to worry about rust..... so the rust cars sell in the low couple hundred dollar range.....

non running mr2's (depends on the severity) are priced at $1,000 and less..... my history has been that i've purchased non running mr2's ranging from $100-600 ($600 being a very simple fix and I drove it home that day).

running mr2's here in WA are priced all over the map.... I can check craigslist and find mr2's with less problems for $800... those tend to sell relatively quickly.... I can also look and find aw11's in the $3,000+ range that haven't sold in months... in pristine low mileage condition.

If you are ok with taking on light projects.... aw11's can be obtained for very inexpensive with mechanical problems... and engines can be obtained for $200 and under

Toyotaspeed, what's aw11's? Not quote familiar with the terms yet. About the Mr2 that I am looking at, the guy lowered his price to $900. What do you think?

If you could find me a better deal, I don't mind traveling to WA... Haven't been there, it could be a nice trip for Thanksgiving break. Thanks...

aw11 is the chasis code for the first gen, non supercharged mr2's.

$900 is a good deal. I would buy it asap if I was looking for something like that.
