Gen1 aw11 c56 swap

Maybe someone out there could help me out. I have a 86 aw11 5 speed looking to swap in jdm c56 left over from corolla 4agze drift car project. I know about drilling the case and swapping the shift linkage. I was wondering if the bell housing will bolt up to older 16v engine I know the clutch will need to be changed but what about axles? Also does anyone have or know where to get input shafts for c56 that match up stock axles. If you have a set let me know I will buy or trade for other parts have 3 more for parts 87aw11,88aw11,89aw16. thanks Also does anyone know if an automatic 4agze e.c.u work in a stick application?

if it was the stock transmission on a 4agze, then it's not a C series transmission..... it is an E series transmission....

I know about drilling the case and swapping the shift linkage. I was wondering if the bell housing will bolt up to older 16v engine

yes it will need to be and yes it will.... the only transmission from an A series car that won't bolt up to any 4age is the alltrac's transmission

I know the clutch will need to be changed but what about axles?

it depends on if it's an E series or a C series.... all FWD C series transmission (from A series cars) use the same axles. You can keep the clutch and flywheel combo you have if it's a C series. If it's an E series, then you will need different clutch, flywheel, pp, and axles. The axles will be difficult to find for an aw11.

Also does anyone have or know where to get input shafts for c56 that match up stock axles.

should be the same if it's a C series

thanks Also does anyone know if an automatic 4agze e.c.u work in a stick application?

yes, it will..... you will have a constant CEL on however

Gen1 what's the difference?

How can I tell if its a c series or e series? are there any marks on the cases? the diff sits in a massive housing on back and the input shaftsplines at the clutch are considerably bigger than stock 1986 tranny. What trans came stock in 86 or 87 have one of each

most 86's had a c50 stock and most 87's had a c52 stock. Both use all the same parts that go with the transmission in 86/87.

if the axle splines for the output shafts are MUCH larger then it's an E series. If it's FWD then it's an E58. The problem with those is that the s/c axles *might not* work with that transmission, as in the FWD setups they have an intermediate shaft that bolts to the block (and because it bolts to the block there, the axle has no retaining clip to hold it in the transmission).

obtaining the FWD axles will be very difficult and expensive, and obtaining the aw11 s/c axles will be less difficult but more expensive.

I have a C56 in my AW11. Besides the shift linkage mod, it is a direct fit with the 16v... no other changes needed. You can use either 200mm or 212mm clutch, as long as you have a matching flywheel to go with it.
