what is a J-spec MR2 turbo engine? I've seen it referred to in other places - is that something different than the stock engine?

hey im new to the board 2 and im interested in this question also...

ive been trying to find the exact specs for the Jspec motor... does anyone know them? I found a couple sites but they were all in Japanese :p

anyways yeah id be interested in this also because then i can pick up a NA motor'd MR2 for cheaper and get a lower KM motor to swap in...

most of the turbo engines up for resale have very high km's 150K + ussually =(

the most desireable motor would be the 3rd gen motor.....i copied this from a post on the main board.....

FYI: Gen III Differences
- MAP sensor instead of AFM
- Bosch D-Jetronic (Gen III) vs. L-Jetronic (relatively primitive) engine management
- CT20b turbo replaces CT26
- Boost raised from 10psi to 13psi
- Fuel cut raised from 12 psi to 18 psi
- Different ECU
- 4 wire O2 sensor
- Shim under bucket valve shims
- slightly more aggressive cams
- Revised internals (pistons, con-rods etc.)
- Revised cylinder head cooling passages/water jackets
- Revised intake manifold (8 'independent long ports' reduced to 4)
- intake manifold inlet air temperature sensor added. i.e. after turbo and intercooler.
- Revised gearbox with close ratio gearing
- lower compression ratio
- stainless steel head gasket
- factory 540cc injectors replace 430cc injectors
- revised fuel rail with bigger bore and relocated pressure regulator
- TVIS eliminated
- EGR eliminated
- LSD in 80% of them
- throttle body increased from 55mm to 60mm
- inlet valve lift increased from 8.2 to 8.7
- intake manifold inlet air temperature sensor added
- Less restrictive exhaust elbow
- Aluminum oil pan
- more rigid alloy sump and additional oil baffles
- Factory Catch can
- Better Oil Cooler and relocated oil filter (bottom)
- 4 Channel ABS coupled with Traction Control available
- No. 1 compression ring described as 'stainless steel' instead of just 'steel'. Oil ring is described as 'stainless steel' instead of 'a combination of steel and stainless steel'.

I've seen that Neishlin Motors sold a few GenIII halfcuts for around the low $3k range... i'd think that $5k would be for installed, right? Though I heard some talk in the IMOC that the block casting on the GenIII was "cheaper" than the casting on the GenII block.. but that was off a 3S-GTE on a Celica GTS w/ GenIII

First Gen: 88-89 : 180hp, celica all-track
Second Gen : 91-95 200hp 200 torque in celica all track + mr2 turbo
Third Gen: 96-99 : 245 hp 240 torque in mr2 and all-track outside of america, where that engine stoped to be imported

The j-spec engine Second Gen got 225 Hp and 220 torque
