Gen1 MK1 MR2 Roof Scoop

I've ordered a scoop for my AW11 cuz i think it looks good. Other than enhance "appearance", does it actually help keep the engine bay temp. cooler during higher speeds? (highway, racing) or is it only for looks? Please tell me what you think of the AW11 roof scoop. and does anyone know when the "tn store" will be working?

if you are talking about that curvy thing that comes up around the C pillar...i think its ugly in my opinon, but everyone has thier tastes.

It was proven on MR2oc that the scoop is useless. Here is why:

When you are driving your MR2's aerodynamic properties function in a way that it creates alot of low pressure under the car when moving at speeds above 30 mph. This low pressure air is forced up into the engine bay as you move, the air is then forced out through the two vents on the engine lid....this is to cool the engine and produces a form of downforce.

Having a scoop there wont help at all, it does nothing, any air that goes into it is cancelled out by the air thats coming out.

close off the bottom of the scoop so the air does not go into the bay, stuff your intake in there, and add a small hole for drainage. would that not make a good way to get fresh cold air into the engine? rather than suck hot air from the engine bay into the engine?
-just a thought, have not tried it yet

edit: my air intake was down by the lower drivers side vent, but it gets dirty fast from road grime...

Unless your filter is directly above the exhaust there is no hot air to be concerned with. At 40 MPH the air thatis being forced through that engine bay is the equivelent of 60-70 MPH.

If you leave the filter in its stock location or under the vent on the hood...you will get the most airflow to the intake.

Gen1

I made my own cold air intake and fed the piping straight into the original air box and it works a treat.
Befor I fitted it the car seem to loose it omph after it had been driven for a while but now it does'nt seem to loose it after it gets hot.
I don't think it has gained any power it just seems to keep the pep it has when it's cold.

And this is assuming that the car in question is not an 87+ because if this is the case the the intake is piped around the back of the car and to vent. Completely removing it from the engine bay.
