Gen1 Running hot

For the last month or so the cars temperature has been sitting just under 100 deg and for the life of me I can't get it to run cooler.
I've flushed the system and replaced the thermo twise, the waterpump is new, it has had the head shaved and new head gasket replaced.
The other problem is it does not run the exess coolent into the recovery tank when it's hot.
Any help would be appreciated.

I would start with the BGB here
http://www.mr2-tech.com/bgb/mechanic...ing_system.htm

One thing that alot of people dont do correctly is bleed the system. Make sure you have done it right or you will have heat issues. And careful cuz this problem could lead to a blown head gasket, so i would be careful driving it like this

I have a small problem in regards to bleading the air out.
At some stage before i got hold of it the previous owner had some work done to the radiator and the air bleeder was removed.
That sort of makes it hard to get rid of all the air.

if you wanted to you could tap a hole in it. Ive heard of people doing that with aftermarket systems. But on a side note to that i just thought of something. Have you checked to make sure your fans are working correctly. Cuz you dont have extreme haet issues. Just a small enough issue that it may only be the fans or a fan relay not kicking on

They have been checked and are all running as they should.
I'm removing the radiator every evening and by the morning the coolant has gone down enough for me to put a little more in.
Hopefully this means a little air is bleeding out each day.

I wouldn't think 100 degree water temp is very hot for an engine. So what is the nominal temp? Just curious

woa your right. Reading this i assumed that his car was running to hot and it didnt dawn on me the temparature he posted. Im assuming you mean 100 Celcius. Which is perfectly normal. Most of the time ive seen people run between 80-100 C

If 80-100c is normal then I don't feel so worried but I might put in a radiator cap with a temp gauge just to find out just how hot she's running.

Dude 100C is way too hot. 100C will melt things, plus the thermo is supposed to open at 180F or 82C. Why don't try bleeding the coolant and/or run the radiator treatment. You can also try buying a heavy duty thermo or sports thermo that opens at a lower temp. I believe there are ones that go to 160F/71C.

I was talking farhenheit.
But 100 C would be the boiling point of water.. .
Anyway, if you've already changed the thermostat , flushed the system, bled it properly and have a new water pump, I would be looking at the radiator fans.(fuses, relays and fan motors)

there are air bleeders in the front trunk and on the thermostat housing...

i personally never use them, however..... I use a snap-on tool that fills it.... however, i have successfully (several times) burped an mr2 the "old fashioned" way

Panic passed.
Played around with it this morning, stuck a thermometer in the radiator and found out the gauge is showing 10c more than the actual temp.
So it's running just under 90c not 100c as the gauge says.
I feel a lot better now.
