don't listen to PHI...he's not allowed or supposed to be posting in here....

first thing is to make sure the car is running in top form....ie...tuneup/oil change....

first mods are basics..like ur intake..exhaust....get urself an aftermarket boost guage...some sort of fuel cut defender...a manual boost contoller...turn up the boost to 14-15psi....n enjoy..

but think long term in ur modding process....decide how much power u wanna make...and how much money ur gonna spend....cuz it gets expensive...i've reached my goal of 300rwhp...n believe me....it did not come cheap..its taken me around four yrs and after this winter...when the car is re-painted n the bodykit goes on.....my quest is done...no more spending money on the car.....

pay attention to this man! he knows what he's talking about. this is an often-overlooked first step to modding your MR2T or any other car for that matter.

the next step i would say involves pen, paper, a calculator (and Pepto Bismol if you're weak-stomached ) because deciding how far you want to go IS the major second step.

if you think that you will want to cross 280 HP, then i would say get the exhaust, an ignition amp of some sort (MSD, Crane, whatever) and ... believe it or not ... i'd suggest you get an aftermarket EMS early in the game. it will help to remove some of the future costs of having to get it later on (after you've tried to tune with the stock ECU and add-ons)

if you don't plan to cross that line then do exactly what MRQturbo said ...
