Gen1 need help diagnosing mk1 mr2

this is gonna be long so i can fully describe the problem.
like the title says. i have a 88 sc mr2 and 2 years ago it died while i was driving, it would restart and run for about 30 sec basically last through first gear, then it would die over and over again as i returned 10 miles back home, dieing just about every time first gear tops out. but sitting at home all it did was idle, oddly it ran fine for a few months the next season. then this last summer it started dieing again with the same symptoms and now it will die at idle. usually runs 10 minutes then stalls, it will restart every time and after the first time it dies it will only run for a few sec or so. i was checking a few things and have found out its a ignition problem. i put the timing light lead (you know it goes around wire #1 normally) around the coil wire and ran the car in the driveway, the coil stops producing spark (yup the light stopped flashing lol) causing the car to die. i was thinking it was the ignitor getting hot and shutting off or something. re-grounding the coil was recommended else where so i gave it a shot, didnt help. so ive been trying to buy a coil and igniror for a gze with no luck every time some one has one for sale i get skipped over and they sell it to someone else. so im wondering if anyone has had this problem, or can at least give me a idea how to diagnose it? is the sensor in the dizzy common to fail? how about the resistor lookin thing on the coil ground? or should i continue my never ending search for a ignitor?
please help i drove my mr2 8 miles last year

i would first try a different coil......

where are you checking for spark using your gun? are the wires in good shape or are they in bad shape? how about the coil wire? (I have constant issues with the coil wire in my ae92... i have to replace it roughly every 2-3 months or so).

all the wires are newer (less than 3k) and i put the timing light pick up around the coil wire itself. the coil isnt anything special is it, or will any generic "old scool" coil work?

lol ok so who here has a BGB? lol
the thing that gets me is it starts every time, so when i measure the ohms what if its when its ok? and could i put a test light one of the 2 poles of the coil and see if when it dies if the "signal" to the coil stops of it it looks to appear to be firing the coil?

If you haven't had to deal with this issue before this will sound strange, but have you burped the coolant? These cars are notorious for getting air in the coolant lines.

I have had 3 MKI Mr2s and all have needed to be burped. And when there is air in the system the idle bounces sometimes, does yours do this?

I would strongly recommend checking the coolant, I also have an sc right now and an sc is worse than most for air. Ill look for the write up on how to do this and post a link, being that it needs to be done in a certain order.

Good luck on getting it fixed.

John

Well MR 2Bad your retarded because I have owned many MKIs and it looks like you drive an MKII. And appearently you have never worked on a mid engine car before, or any car for that matter. I now know that I know more than you do about these cars. Because your probably 16 and think your know everything in the world. Or if your older then you are extremely juvenile. Who goes around and insults people help people. Do you go down to local orphanage and tell the volunteers there that are reading to orphans that they are stupid for do so? Do you honestly have nothing better to do in your life than to troll on a forum. If these words are getting too big, you are Arkansas after all, then use google to figure it out.
