Supercharge block vs N/A block

Hello all,
I know that the block of a supercharged 4agze motor is structurally stronger than the N/A 4age motor, so does this mean that the crank and connecting rods are also stronger? Thanks for any help!

Yes and no. The 4A-GZE has a stronger bottom end than the earlier 4A-GE's, however the later units (88-on) all have the same block, crank, and rods.

all 88 on's have connections internally for oil squirters, but 88-89 only had them in the 4agze's

the 4agze also has lower compression pistons that are factory forged and ceramic coated

the cranks in the earlier (85/86 some 87) are a bit smaller with smaller rod journals

...actually, the 4age went from 5 ribs to 7 ribs in 87-88, reinforcing the strength of the block. however, nothing of major importanced changed until the smallport. im not sure if the smallport had forged internals like the ze..

The crank, rods, and pistons did change in 88 as well to the larger ones. The small internals were never used after 87.

Jeff
but you forgot to mention that large were used in some 87's

i'm also not positive that the rods are the same.... although they have the same size journal and pin sizes, I believe the gze's are actually beefier..... the 20V's are def different than the larger 16V n/a and I think the 20V and gze are almost identical
