Gen1 Fuel Gauge is F*cked.

Hey guys, my fuel gauge works but only sometimes. It'll read well once i top the tank with gas, but then it will go up and down constantly. Its a pain in the ass when im far from a gas station, cuz i don't know how much fuel is left. Is there something i need to clean or replace? Thanks for any suggestions.

Fuel Level Sensor

Sounds like it could be a problem with your fuel level sendor/sensor. Most of the time, and someone can correct me if i am wrong, it is located above your gas tank. Which means it is not all that hard to replace but it will take some time from dropping the gas tank and what not.

Might be a hard part to find. Go to the dealer to get one or find a junk yard u can steal one from.

My gas gauge moves alot to, especially if you are low on gas. Its normal to a point. Is your gas gauge moving drastically (going from E to F) or is it moving in small increments (like a few points up or down.)

It doesn't move alot. It'll read a full tank, but after a while it will drop down to "E". Sometimes it will move in between Empty and half full while i'm driving.
