How hard is it to turn one of these into a high 11s car?

A few friends and I are going to get together and buy a car to build up for racing...kinda like a garage car idea. We were looking at the last gen of the Supras but they are a bit out of our price range. The MR2 seems like it'd be the next best thing. What kinds of times do these run stock (the turbo'd versions and the older SC'd versions)? How hard would it be to turn one into a low 12s or high 11s car? I really don't know much about MR2's, but we came across some in our looking and decided it would be a good car for our first team project.

the 300 rwhp mark will get in the 12s....u'll need some drag radials and some awesome driving to get it into the low 12s (see jekyl n hyde**he is getting close to hitting 11's).....

i have an upgraded turbo (t3/t4), fuel system (supra injectors/pump)..full 3" downpipe n exhaust...hks vpc/afr/ssq bov/wastegate....greddy IC...techtom ecu...on an untouched motor...

only been to the track once this yr....running 14psi on street tires...i can't launch the car hard or shift fast because trd makes shitty clutches....best i could do was 13'40 @ 108mph....when i do the clutch this winter....i'll be in the 12s next spring/summer....

heres the official mr2 1/4 mile registry.....

Wow, so there aren't many of these cars running that fast. Hmmm, we thought they sounded a bit better than that. We figure we'll have about eight grand to spend on a car by summer, but the cheaper the better. We're just looking for ideas right now. Anyone have any recommendations on whether we should stick with the MR2 or go for another type of car?

For 8G I bet you could get a second gen talon into 11s, or at least very close to it.

You only need about 245 RWHP or so to "touch 12s".

300+ RWHP will get you "touching 11s".

Here is an interesting list:

Yeah, I know DSMs are cheap to make fast, and we considered it. We'd rather have a car that not many people build up though. Kinda hard to find a car that's cheap/easy to make fast but there aren't many around driving on the streets of Chicago's suburbs. Lately we've changed our minds to a late 80s or early 90s Mustang 5.0.

Yea I think Talon can do a better job at making better times but driving an MR2 is not just about making crazy 1/4 mile times.

Mr2's are competent at drag, but expensive and tough to work on. For the money, there are other cars you can mod and not want to hang yourself becuase wrenching on it is such a PITA.

you buy an MR2 because you love the car and it makes you grin everytime you fire up the engine behind your head... not because it's a logical choice to lower ET's

[though the 3sgte is capable of insanely high power outputs]
