turbo wrap?

i was looking at heat wrap for my ex. manifold and turbo and wasn't sure if it would be safe to use any wrap from like autozone or if i should use something better. Also, i currently dont have the heat shield on the turbo. would it be ok to casually drive it for like 10-15 minutes without damage?

I have heard both sides. You can drive it without the heat shield but you want to keep it out of boost, since your car runs just like its NA counterpart. 2. You should never run it without the heatshield, period.
I would play it safe and drive it only in a pinch, and even then keep the car out of boost RPM. I would not drive it if you have to sit in traffic or other times when your engine temp is the highest.

Lots of guys run without a heat shield full time. No problems. Especially guys who have upgraded to bigger turbos.
As far as heat wrap. It can also hold in the heat . But this is debatable.

I have a td06 in my mr2. I have never had any problems. It is a great turbo for the low 300 range, it spools pretty quick. As for the heat shield, MR2 bad is right, you should not have any problems, Just make sure there isn't anything too close to any of the hot side of the turbo. The higher temperatures will melt anything that is resting on the turbo or the lines. If you have heard of any fires under the engine compartment, I would be willing to bet this was the cause of it. The only reason i said ealier to only run it in a pinch is that i do not know the condition of the engine bay. I do not want to be the one to tell you it will be fine and then something happens and you melt something.
