SW20 Error Lights and Error code #24

Hey guys,
My non-turbo, 3SGE MR2 Mk2 (1990 Jap) is throwing a few error lights on the dashboard at the moment - one is the engine fan, one is the engine malfunction and the other is a symbol with a square with heat lines going up from it (not sure exactly what it is).
Put the engine into dianostic mode by paperclipping the pins, and it gives an error code 24. This is described as
"Intake air temperature signal"
Happens when:
Whenever a short circuit or a circuit detachment in the intake air temperature sensor is detected.

Places to look:
* Wirings and connectors (intake air systems)
* Intake air temp sensor
* ECU
"

There's also a slight plastic/electrical burning smell when I stop the car. Coming from the engine bay by the smell of it.

Wondering if anyone can suggest where I can look to fix the problem??

Thanks from downunder, Lucas

Some one can correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the Air Intake Temp. Sensor in MAF Sensor. I would just take a look at it. You may need to replace just the AIT sensor or maybe the MAF. As far as the plastic burning smell, can you see smoke or just smell it. You will have to look around, if the air intake sensor is off or the MAF is bad, you may be running a lot hotter that you usually do. Look around for any wires or anything that is close by the hotter parts of the engine. i.e the block, exhaust. Something may have started melted and shorted out your sensor.

non turbo doesn't use a MAF... but uses a MAP.

the IAT sensor in the non turbo is a stand alone plastic sensor in the intake ducting.

plastic smell... you'd have to check for thing rubbing against things they shouldn't...

check belts, pulleys, timing covers etc...
