Converted a Honda Enthusiast!!

Hi, my name is Joey, i am 19 years old and just bought a 1991 MR-2 Tbar!! I am a 'former' honda enthusiast. just sold my GSR swapped del sol, and a few weeks later i found what I have always wanted Its a 91 T Bar.. interior is in great shape, its a burnt orange color exterior, originally black, with 17'' Motegi wheels on it. With a 2.2 Celica 5-spd engine swap. Best part about it, is that I paid under 4 grand for it, out the DOOR!! Will post pics as soon as I figure out how and where.

Just so you know, the MR2 comes with the 2.2 5S-FE (130 hp) motor. It's share with the celica and camry thus it's not a swap. If your looking for a swap, then you should look into the 3S-GTE (200 hp) which is found the in the MR2 Turbo and Celica Turbo All-Trac. The 3rd gen 3S-GTE will give about 250-260 hp. If allmotor is what your looking for then a 2nd/3rd gen 3S-GE (160 hp ~ 177 hp) found in the JDM MR2 and Celica is a good swap along with the Toyota 3S-GE Beams (197 hp ~ 207 hp) found in the later JDM MR2, Celica, and Altezza. Remember that all of these motor will generate more turq then any of the Honda motors (H22A will vary depending on what gen toyota engine comparing too.).

O ok, thanks for the info. I know nothing about these cars. All i know is that the engine came out of a FWD 1990 celica and bolted right into the original engine mounts.. just to ask, is there a decent amount of perfomance parts available for this engine?? The torque is impressive from idle to 4500 but after that, powerband falls off.. thinking of a mild cam to help out.. what would u suggest? -other than a turbo

Thanks for the swap list, ya all motor is all im looking for.. this is going to be my daily driver and its an absolute blast to drive as is. Yes, i can already tell this motor stock has SO much more torque than my previous ride.. 140 vs. 127ish

Welcome to TN. And Congrats on your new 2!
They are a kick to drive, but unfortunately, there's not much after market support for the 2.2 engine. CAI, header and catback are about all you're gonna find. You could get cams ground, but not sure.
Those mods and a beefed up suspension will enhance your driving experience.

Just like what MR2BAD said. Though there is not much support for the 5S-FE, the MR2 body is a very good setup. The 5S-FE along being an MR2 with simple mods and suspension upgrades will net you a pretty good ride. Due remember the MR2 is lighter then the Celica so the 130hp is a pretty good match for NA. Just to let you know, the swap for the 3S-GE and 3S-GTE is not that hard and can be done pretty easy if you know what your doing.

there are plenty of people that have TC'd the 5sfe with success. I personally dont have much experience with it however. But it is a very capable motor when built correctly.

The 5sfe can be turbocharged, but the head is an "economy "head. It doesn't have the water jackets for needed cooling. You could keep the boost down to 5-7psi and prolly be ok.
