Engine skipping

I've got a 93 non-turbo, and just made a few changes to it and it's recently been skipping. I bought some pulstar plugs, if you've ever heard of them. High performance, so on, so forth. Anyways. As I was changing the spark plugs out, in one of the wells there was what looked to be a bit of dirty oil coating the well and top of spark plug, inside the cap. But again, this was before I put the new plugs in, and it wasn't skipping before the new plugs. So, I put the plugs in and the idle isn't constant; it's skipping, although the acceleration seems a little smoother. Today I just bought some new spark plug wires and put them in but it didn't solve the problem. Anyone have a clue why it's started to skip? Maybe the oil dropped further down into the well?

Have you also checked your cap and rotor?

I'm almost positive the gap is right. I thought at first the gap was supposed to be the same as stock spark plugs, but evidently since these are "pulse plugs" I was told to make the gap .040" and I'm pretty sure the cap is fine, not sure about the rotor; and also not sure how to check it. Heh.

Those pulstar plugs freaking cost alot for one. What else did you change while changing the plugs.

Ehh, changed the oil. Switched from high mileage to full synthetic royal purple oil. That's it. Then changed the plugs. Then changed the plug wires.

I was looking at the BGB, and it states the gap for plugs in the 5 sfe is 0.43 in (1.1mm)
Sounds like a big gap to me, but thats what it says.

Yeah, that's what I had them gapped at originally, and I emailed a guy about the skipping, he said this:

> That gap in your manual is for a spark plug, this is not a spark
> plug. You must gap this plug at .040. This is a pulse spark and it
> must be gapped to our specifications. This is probably why the car
> is jumping.

And so, I re-gapped them to that. Still jumping though.
