I'm Marty, new to MR2's, bought a 92 n/a about a mouth ago, It has a hesitation between 1500 and 3000 rpm's. Changed plugs, wires, cap and rotor. Checked timming. Checked emission control system per factory repair manual and all operates as it should. Checked tps and test good. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks, I bought a repair manual cd off ebay, but it did'nt show the location of the filter. Replaced the fuel filter, it was a little clogged. My hesitation still exist. Checked all the vacuum lines with the exception of the brake booster line. I would think the brakes would pulsate if that was bad,but maybe not. What am I missing or overlooking?
If I were experiencing the same problem, I would begin with the ignition system. I know you said you already changed all those components, but if you have a steady flow of fuel, I would still be suspicious of the ignition system.
i'd like a sticky .. newb to the forum here long time MR2 owner.. if you have any links to materials for the 89 SC MKI I would soooo appreciate it. The info i find stops with the 87 model N/A of course
check the air flow meter.
i didnt even replace mine yet... i just took it apart and sprayed some WD, moved the parts around, and it was like night and day.
my hesitation was atrocious for months, but after i cleaned the AFM, it was COMPLETELY gone. i still need a new AFM because it's crapping out again, but it was a drastic change. good luck
What should I check in the ignition system that I have not already replaced? I was unable to locate the AFM. In my manual it does'nt show one for the non turbo, Is it possible that I don't have one on my model? It appears to be getting slightly worse. When I accelerate hard it doesn't hesitate at all. It happens when I take off from a light at a slow or moderate speed, when I'm in traffic, or cruising under 3000 rpm. I'm at a loss at this point.
my 5sfe\3sfe doesn't have an afm either.... if you have already checked your throttle positioning sensor and replaced\thoroughly checked the ignition system, replaced the fuel filter.... I would then remove the injectors and inspect\clean them.... if nothing else, I would see if there was anyone locally with the same setup and swap ecu's for a test run....

you should try to buy Big Green Book for your Mr2. those ebay cd's suck. i have one,but the only thing it did was take up room and slow me down.
So let me get this straight it hesitates ONLY in 1500 to 3000. what happens after you past 3000 is it back to normal.
1. check all your vacuum hoses you might have big vacuum leak. Re tighten those hoses check for any loses ones. Remeber mkII are 13years and older so some hoses need to be replace.
2. Exhaust leak: maybe you have hole in your exhaust
3. take out your throttle body: get some carborator cleaner and clean it out.
4. Did you change the spark plugs? or just the wires or both

Just wonder if you ever solved this problem as I have changed just about everything and it's still happening !
Not yet. I have'nt had a lot of time to work on it lately. Still driving it as a commuter car so it does'nt really act up on the freeway. If you find your problem let me know and I will do the same.
