All 4 cars were designed for 4 different reasons. I wouldn't even consider these 4 cars comparable.
In a straight line with the same driver, the 2nd gen turbo MR2 is by far the "fastest", but that's what it was designed for. 200 turbocharged, intercooled, horesepower in an MR setup, and extremely easy and fairly inexpesive to squeeze out another 50-75hp.
I'd also give the edge to the sw20 on a road course/autox course (assuming same conditions, and all driven by the same driver). It's probably the most capable, although certain drivers could probably do better with different cars. Statistically, I'd say the sw20 would net quicker times overall.
Beyond that, it's hard to say what would be 2,3,4.
I'd probably say the Celica GTS would have the next fastest straight line time, followed by the Xrs Corolla. The 1zz in the MRS was designed for nothing more than economy, and in all fairness, probably doesn't belong in an MRS to begin with.
I'd rank the MRS next in road course/autox. It is quite nimble and easy to toss around in the twisties. But again, the 1zz does it no justice.
The Celica GTS is probably not far behind though. The 2zz is a stout motor, if driven properly. And is more than enough to push the Celica through the corners, with plenty left over to power out of a turn.
The Corolla on the other hand, is still a small sedan, whichever way you look at it. Don't get me wrong, I think the Xrs version is awesome, but it is still an economy sedan, with a little more power, a 6 speed, and a bit stiffer suspension. An extremely fun little sedan to drive, but really not fair to compare it to the other sport/sport compact cars. If you need 4 doors and the space, it's definately the way to go, but if you want a sports car, get a sports car.
Just my $0.02
