Need Help

Well I'm the proud owner of a 1986 MR2 bought it for $500.00 see pics here

http://orlando.craigslist.org/car/664893463.html

1st things 1st the trunk lid to the engine I cannot get it open. It was open when I bought the car and when I got it home since I live in an apt community I shut it and now I cannot re open it I went for lunch and tried to open it from the lever by the drivers seat it does not release. The pull lever is very easy to pull I am assuming that either the cable is broken or it is not attached –damn-

this guy was crazy asking $1800.00 originally for the car. It Has the loud knock of a spun bearing. I knew that and would not pay 18 for it.

After so negotiating I got the car, Loaded into my fathers closed trailer it is like a 12’x 7’ or 8’ . Fits like a glove and there is room to walk around the car. We were so happy that we can transport the car on his trailer.

tried to start it since it did not start when I purchased it, after 2Hrs of checking here and there, I see that the spark plug wires were reversed I think #1 was on #2 - I fixed that and it started right up. everything checked ok just the bearing of course shut it right off and checked all fluids. Looks like all new fluids were added. so I will leave them in there until I start re building the 4AGE.

Try and use the key to open it. I know on MKII's there is a 'valet' feature that will disable the interior handle if you turn the key the wrong way in the trunk.

There is no key hole on the lid to the engine. I can open the trunk part of it with a key but not the engine part.

$500 mr2! good save SR-1ION... one less heading to the scrap yard.

as for the latch, you say it has no resistance when you pull the release lever... try and get some needle-nose pliers on the cable itself and give it a try.... on my mkII the cable had been rippped out of the release lever... so I used vise grips for a few days, then decided to use some 3M PANEL BOND adhesive to hold it back in place... has worked great ever since!

There is a separate latch behind the drivers seat that I did not see or know about

I had to call the guy that sold me the car and he said did you try the lever behind the seat. I was like what? where.?

I'm sure some of you had a laugh but I found it, thanks for all the help.

yeah the one for the trunk is broken but I can use the key to open that lid

Thanks again
