93 MR-2 Turbo

Okay so I am new to the hole mr2 thing, well hopefully soon. Anyways I am going to go look at a 93 turbo with 120k miles on the body and 60k on a jdm motor. I have talked to him and the only problem he is having is that when he accelerates right now he will have a stutter. So I guess what I want to ask anyone have any idea what that might be? Also is there anything else that I should at real well? As in like its something that is normally wrong with these cars. Thanks for anyone help.

Welcome to Toyota Nation and the MR2 Forum
When was the last time the ignition system was tuned up? Could be reason of stutter/hesitation.
Look for rust, bent/ damaged undercarriage parts, oil leaks, coolant leaks. A compression test will reveal much.
Does he have the documents for the JDM swap? Personally, I wouldn't buy a car with an engine swap unless it was someone I knew personally who was competent to perform the swap. Just my own peave.

check if its original turbo 93?
did he swap gen2 or gen3? gen3 are harder to find parts and more expensive.
you must do compression test on those jdm motors. Also take pics we can help you out and make sure you dont buy a lemon. trust me i had 4 mr2's and i got screw over in the past. Always do a carfax, i remeber one guy said it had 140k and car fax said 280k lol.

Find out how many miles on the JDM motor before he put it in, if it just recently swapped there could be something wrong with it. Like everyone said, compression test is very easy and tells a lot. If there is a way to get to the turbo inlet in the intake check to make sure it spins freely and there is not a lot of free play in the shaft. If you can see the actual blades make sure they aren't chipped or scratched up.

Thanks for all your input. I happen to find out that my old boss is friends with the guy who put the motor in. I gave him a call and he gave me a run down on the car.
