new 2 mr 2

so I just picked up two 89' mr2's from the local auction. Always nice to have a winter project. One runs good, just needs some minor body work. the other is a straight parts car. I'm going to make it into a track car to run in the summer.

My main question is how much boost can a stock engine handle? I've got a few dozen DSM turbos and what not laying around, and making a manifold and all that is pretty simple.

And any one have any info on engine management for the cars? I know some work better than others.

Haven't had too much luck finding performance parts

BAH!!!

I'm anti supercharger

Had a VW corrado 1.8 supercharged. had it running 16lbs of boost. put a ton of work into it for that. and after everything I did I couldn't launch it too much instant power and not enough top end. Good for burning out but that was about it

So i sold that and bought a few of these. If I dont like the end result I'll sell this one and get something else till I'm happy like that will ever happen....although....there is a 04' 911 turbo convertible sitting 10 feet from me...sure that would make me happy :p

if you want one of them as a track car
take the old motor out Get a 3SGTE but that in there and you'll have an instant 13sec car that is also great for AutoX.

the 3SGTE motor is out of the MkII MR2's
Its the Turbo motor out of the 91-95 MR2

My friends the Hux's (here in FL) put one in a customer's 88 MR2 SuperChrg Body.
Funny cuz they took it too the track and it beat abunch of cars and trucks and it still had the Supercharged stock sticker on the car. (before new paint job) People would ask whats in that thing
and since the blow off valvel went back into the intake you couldn't really tell it was a turbo motor So they just said its just a stock 1.8 4cyl Supercharged
Its pretty dam quick- Did low 13's down the track and ITs allways a Sleeper

intalled custom Roll cage in the turbo 1st gen MR2 for AutoCross racing.

Go to www.mr2faq.com click on to the forums link on there and then scroll down to find mk1 MR2 area where people have done this swap before.

Also check out
www.HuxRacing.com they have a bunch of custom made performance items.

I'm trying to keep it at a low out of pocket cost...And I dont have a MKII laying around...few supras though...maybe a supra engine swap

Somehow I dont think it'll fit though

I've got a bunch of turbo sabbs, tallons, volvos, ect laying around. So I was going to use the turbo systems off those and make up a turbo set up for the mr2. Electronics are pretty cheap...safc, avr, ect, ect, should only run about a grand, and with all the other parts free, free labor, free dyno, I should be set. I'll have to check out the auctions for a MKII though

This summer at BC2003 (British Columbia's MR2 meet) there was a 4agte custom setup from Alberta. I didn't get a chance to look carefully, but he was putting down some pretty good numbers as far as I can remember. It can definetely be done. As far as engine management, no idea what he was using.

its also possible to use a Camry V6 motor also
The trans from a MKII MR2 works on the motor
They did a Swap in TurboMag but they blew it up trying to put too much forced induction on it with a Supercharger and a Turbo
