Exclamation 5sfe hybrid??

Ok, within the 30 minutes I have been part of this forum, what is this hybrid engine I have seen mur-murs of? I know it involves a 5sfe block and 3sgte head.....but does this mean that it is still turbo charged and what kind of power is it pulling? Also how much would an engine like that cost, and where could I get the parts. And for all of you who are thinking that I should just go out and get the burien turbo charger.......screw that, they are just trying to screw you over. i went down to the Burien Toyota shop last week and they were trying to tell me that you could run 10s w/ aries pistons and 15lbs of boost with it. So I would like to do this hybrid, if it really put out that much hp as I have heard. So if you have any info, it would be great, thanks!

It's called the 5s-gte. The only one I've heard of in the works was by Wraith, and he's not done with it yet. You might wanna check some MR2 boards...I think someone mentioned some 5s-gte's there? Maybe?

they've been done. Although the more popular option for big power is the 3sgte stroker. Using the 5sfe crankshaft and custom connecting rods. 2.2L 3sgte. The cylinder walls are a bit thicker on the 3sgte as far as I recall. Check board.mr2faq.com for more detailed info. Run a search.

actually the rods on a 2.2Liter is the 5s-fe rods and the pistons are from a 3s-gte...
And the higher horsepower MR2's and Celica's are making alot more power when they're using the 5s-fe block instead of the 3s-gte blocks... The wall thickness on both blocks are about the same...

yes , if your talking about the 5s-gte ... Because the n/a MR2's came with the 5S-FE motors. All your changing is the head, pistons, rods, and maybe crank ( depending on what displacement you want).

I know a guy here in FL with a 5S bottom end and 3SGTE head
before it was tuned it did 310 wheel hpwr at only 7lbs of boost
of coarse the Pistons he is using are JE pistons
He is using the the 5s crank so its definitely very strong.

it was tuned in boca and the old turbo housing made a crack at 24 lbs so it wasn't doing as good as it should have
They were having a bit of troubles tuning on the dyno with fuel ratios but it still pulled like 560+ to the wheels
He ended up taking it to the track just for a mild run on the last day opened last fri night and he ran a 12sec flat at MOROSO
but the guy tuning the car forgot to take the 4000 rev limiter off and bump it to 8k so only going up to 4k rpms he still did a 12.03 run.
When the track opens again next year there should be a new turbo on the motor and it will be tunned again should be in the 600 plus maybe 700 horsepower range.
Ill post pics of Mike Colons MR2 after i load the pictures up on
my little site. Pics includes Eric Hux - HUX Racing-

This set up is really sweet.

Humm. So should I buy a $3,500 dollar MR2, and put $2k into the engine? Would that get me even with a 3SGTE or should I keep looking for a 'possible' (if insurance shit works out) 3sgte powered mr2?

so how complicated would it be to make a 5sgte? does the 3sgte head bolt right on to the 5sfe? cuz if it did that would be just plain beautiful! only if it produced more hp anyways
