Australia OD vrs temperature

Ive been doing a lot of reading and playing with the OD on my 91 MR2. It takes a while for the temperature to warm up for the OD to kick in? And even when it does warm up, I go for one of those fast as motorway rides to pump the adrenalin but because the cooling system seems to work really well it brings the tempurature down to cold again and disengages the overdrive. Is there a way to set the OD to operate, even when the motor is cold. It can be costly on gas.

i don't understand

you can't control overdrive. you can only keep it from turning on at all if you have an "econ or OD" button

On according to the tech data there are three parts that control the OD that all work together? The rmp, temp and throttle position. To make sure about the temp control I heated the thermostat aftficially and ran the car around the block and the OD kicked in exactly at the 2 click above the cold mark everytime. I put a new thermao stat in which holds a little more pressure before releasing the water flow allowing it to heat up quicker and maintain the temperature at about 1/3 and it seems to be working good.?
