Problems with acceleration - need help!

My car just got done being built after about 2 long years. I went to pick it up today from the garage and it STILL isnt totally ready.

The car starts and idles just fine, no problems with that at all in anyway, it runs beautifully. It even revs in neutral just fine no problems, the turbo spools and the bov works great, and does not stick at all. The turbo system is totally stock besides the blow off valve (turbo xs rfl), and i have double checked the hoses. The previous owner of the engine had a boost controller on it, that is not on it now (or hooked up at least).

The problem is that when you take off and accelerate, the car runs like it has no power at all, it drives just fine but does not drive like a turbo car. It accellerates slower than my old 5sfe did.

I have looked into the hose setup and its totally fine, as well as any vacuum leaks. Also im not sure of a turbo leak, it sounds totally fine. The bov blows off after 2k or higher, which im pretty sure is normal.

The car has been sitting there for 2 years and the only thing i can think of is that the gas that is in there is the same gas that was in it when i dropped it off ... 2 years ago. Its 87 octane and smells rotten as hell.

Could this old gas be the cause of my poor acceleration? The garage that it was at took it for a test drive yesterday and they said that under acceleration that sputtered and sometimes died, today when i took it out it ran just fine but had no power at all.

Basically im narrowing this down to the gas... or maybe the blow off (because its the only aftermarket thing about the turbo)... or somehow a turbo leak?

Any help is greatly appreciated!! i miss my mr2 so much and i want it back!

If you think the gas is old and smells rotten, I would start with that first. If the BOV is popping off, then it should be working, otherwise, if it is stuck open you would be able to hear it.

The MR2 Turbo must have 91 octane or higher. Drain your tank and replace the gas.
Were your ignition parts replaced with new ones?

I would drain the fuel from the system and the lines.
Fill it up with 91 octane and run a full tank through the system. Im sure you will notice the difference.
Run it with something good like Mobile or Shell..those are the only gas i fill.

good luck.

yeah the entire ignition system is brand new, and it doesnt sputter or anything as if one was misfiring, it just has no power.

Ok well since ur ignition system is new was it done right? If your ignition timing is running a little retard it will idle and rev properly but once its under a load will have no torque (power).

Well if it helps, When we took the car for a test drive, the weird thing is that when you put it in reverse it takes off like normal (weird as it sounds) it has more power in reverse than it does when driving...

Not sure if that is any help

So far im guessing it can be one of 3 things... simply the gas, a turbo leak (but everything looks fine and its stock besides the bov which doesnt stick..), or the ignition.. which the garage said they have already checked the timing and said it was right on ... so yeah this is turning into a real headache lol

Do the fuel fist, it doesn't really matter what you find, you will need to fill up.
