86 Mk1 Automatic

I have the opportunity to buy an 86 MK1 for only 2000, and it has a brand new stock engine with merely 8k miles on it. The thing is, it's an automatic.

Is it that big of a deal for it to be? I hate to pass up a bargain like this...

I know it's possible to switch it over to a standard, but how much would this cost? I really appreciate your feedback, and thank you. I really want one of these cars, but the automatic is kind of bothering me...

well, you have a problem. the shifter for an automatic is on teh steer column. so if your going to change it to a manual, you'll have this thing sticking out of the steer column. unless you want to change it. and usually, changing autmatic to manual, i believe your looking at a couple thousand.

P.S. sorry for bursting your bubble

Actually, the shifter is in the same place it would be for a manual. So...yeah...

So, considering this... anyone know how expensive it would be? Thanks.
