Tell me why I should keep my MR2 over a MKIII Supra

Posting this in both the MR2 and Supra forums.

I've been contemplating parting and selling my MR2 project for a nice turbo MKIII Supra, but since I know nothing about the Supra, I came here!

My MR2 has pretty much everything modded, but my 20v blew up and I was building a 3sgte for it. Problem is, to build the motor the way I want I'll spend around $3000 by the time the MR2 is moving again.

Pics and info on it here: http://www.cardomain.com/id/aaron7

Now, instead of spending $3000 on a new motor in the MR2 I was eyeing the MKIII supra turbo. I miss having a front engine rear wheel drive car... but I don't know how the two compare in handling, power (if I finished my 300whp 3sgte), repairs, etc.

Maybe I just feel this way because I've owned the MR2 too long and I haven't been able to drive it more than 2000 miles in the past 2 years. Is it time for a change?

So what do you guys think?

Thats a totally personal preference. The Supra can easily be modded to 500hp streetable ride. But don't think you won't have to fork out the cash after you purchase the Supra..

Was that the only turbo engine available in the MKIII?

Somehow I know that I'd end up importing a motor for it :p

I own a mkiii supra its a really fun car but there is head gasket issues, broken gas gauge that keeps reading E,expensive parts and hard to find in a good condition. But yet and still I Love it !!!!!.
Supra all the way but do save money to do a swap cause your going to blow a head gasket or
want to mod it.

keep the MR2
the MKIII supra is a general fail...doesnt handle well, theyre slow in general, and they have rampant headgasket issues....im a toyota tech and ive dealt with 3-4 of these supras, and theyre nightmares if theyre ill maintained...one in nice condition is overall an ok vehicle, but most are beaten to shit by now...i have one at work now that needs a motor and all assocated parts (hoses, mounts, wiring harness, etc) and the body is in decent shape, but till take at least 6k to get it on the road...needs 3k worth of parts not including the engine, and the parts are very hard to find

If you can ditch the motor and pick up a 1JZ swap then I would say go for it because those are cheap.

Yes, the USDM MKIII Supra came with the 7m-ge and the 7m-gte. The MK3 over in Japan came with the 1jz-gte. As far as "importing" another engine, its BS. Any 7m-gte you find is going to be coming from else where here in the states.

I recently found that the prices of the 2jz's are going down. I'm saving up for it right now for my MK3 Supra. My 88 Supra is on it's third engine (on it when I got it). Now i'm not going to waste the money on the 7m-gte when I can make a 2jz swap out of it.

My 88 MR2 = DD. 88 Supra = 800whp project
