Aftermarket Oil Cooler ???

Any one here using an aftermarket oil cooler?
I'm going to install one. I am thinking of putting it in the oil return line from the turbo. The stock return pipe is pretty big and all the oil coolers I have been looking at have 6-10 npt inlets/outlets. So I'm wondering if there will there be enough pressure to flow in and out the cooler well?
Or-should it be mounted somewhere else? My thinking is the oil coming out of the turbo would probably be the hottest and would mostly benefit from a cooler there.
Opinions please

Well i dont know about the benefits of adding a cooler, The engine has a self oil cooling system built into the oil filter assembly. Coolant flows through that oil filter base and cools the oil.

But your idea of putting it after the turbo sounds reasonable. They put intercoolers after the turbos to cool air charge going out so the same principle could apply to oil.

The stock oil cooler is so tiny and I know it helps, but the oil coming directly from the turbo has got to be alot hotter than the block oil. I would just like to keep the oil temperature as low as I can and slow the thermal breakdown of the oil. Not to mention I won a gift certificate from a speed shop and they only have a few things for the MR2. So I was gonna get the oil cooler, some silicon IC hoses and T-clamps...

I have to admit that I haven't deal much with aftermarket oil cooler; however, I am just wondering if it would be more benefitical for the cooler to cool the oil before enter into the turbo, cooler oil higher viscoity maybe. The oil coming back out would basically drain back into the pan. It is similar to the factory oil cooler, the oil is cooled down before entering into the lubricating circuits.

Another thought is a cooler in series with the factory cooler with a thermo valve that would by-pass the add-on cooler when the temp is low.

Just a tought or two.

N.E.O.

Having an oil cooler after the turbo wouldn't be very logical. You want it in place of or in series with the factory oil cooler. Toyota/Yamaha knew what they were doing when they designed the engine. I'm running a side mounted oil cooler... but I don't think that would help you much since (if I remember correctly) you are running a Greddy IC. I've seen other people mount them to the bottom of the tranny with a small scoop... that may be an option. I would definitely not do it off of the oil return, though.

The oil feed line is generally REALLY small... especially the stock CT26 hard lines. I would stick to something on the stock oil cooler. Most people go with a sandwich adapter between the stock oil cooler and the oil filter.

Well, I got this oil cooler,(free) 7 rows-13x2x2 with 3/8" inlet and outlet-which matches the stock feed lines. I guess I just don't have to use it.
