I have a 91 MR2 n/a w/ only 98000 miles. When I bought used, red paint was shining like new. A few months later it has started to fade really bad. I live in NYC and the sun herre isnt to bad plus I dont take it out much. Do any of you guys know of a good paint shop or commercial paint ex: Maaco that does good paint for about $800-$1500 ???
how long have u had the car now??....i wouldn't suggest going to maaco....i've heard nothing but horror stories bout the work that they do.....try waxing n polishing the car to restore the finish.....
Was the car salvaged? I know a lot of people out here in California spray their cars right before they sell them so that they look better and can get a better price for them. The thing is that they spray them with the crappiest maaco paint job that you can get done, I think it is like $200-300. Then in a few months your true car starts to show. Check if the title is a salvage, do a carfax report if you want, but the title should say, unless they just did a paint job.
My friends 91 turbo when purchased was faded like no other car i've ever seen.. We buffed the car and it came out brand new... Lasted for a year, faded again and then we just buffed it again... The paint just comes right out and makes hte car look new again:P So if I were you i'd take it to a shop and getting them to buff it or learn yourself and do it
I have tried to wax it several times after a wash and the paint comes off with it. I see red paint on my perfectly new white rag. The car isnt salvaged either. It has a good title and carfax. Never in an accident. I guees its because it is getting old. I would say that toyota has really bad red paint. Ive seen other toyotas with fadded red paint worse than mine. I guess the paint wasnt taken care of often.
I guess they didnt clear coat the paint. DAM toyota. I just got an estimate on a new paint job at this good place herre in NYC and they are charging me $3500 for Crimson red pearl. Toyota never had "Crimson red Pearl " but this guy will make it look better than the plain RED . I will tune in later and get a pick of wen the car is done.
yea I thought my paint was faded or bad, but I washed mine and waxed it, yes it's red, looked brand new and I actually got comments, lol. It had 177,000 miles on it.... Than died and I tow it today to get my 43,000 engine put in. Hehe cant wait.
3500usd, jeez that sounds like a lot to me...i'm getting a major rear quarter panel dent, a small right fender dent, and a small door dent pulled, plus stock green paint and red pearl for about a grand (i'm working with them to do the sanding so i'm not getting charged for that)...on my camry
maaco is decent, we had a thread in the camry section about it...it all comes down to how good the prep work is and which line of paint you choose with them
for 3500bux, i'd be expecting hok kandy paint or something...
but then again, i live in texas so maybe there is a price difference (about 2g's for kandy paint, about 1200 for a full body paint if straight body)...but still, that is a lot of money to pay
I knoe, $3500 sounds like alot but I got a great deal and a kick-ass paint job. It was better than I expected. Its not candy paint but its toyota Crimson Red pearl from Japan which is extremely rare.
