Gasket Question

'91 MR2 Turbo.. rebuilt CT26...running 15psi
I want to make the gaskets that go between the turbo and exhaust manifold and the turbine and the downpipe using the kind of gasket material that comes in sheets.
My question is-will it hold up to the heat? Toyota uses those rediculously priced metal gaskets.
Anyone ever tried using this stuff?

MR2BAD:

I actually tried some of that gasket-on-a-roll with my 5sfte engine.... it held up surprisingly well. I wet the roll and laid it out with books on top to dry perfectly flat... (only good use of those encyclopedias I've had yet) used a hobby knife to cut to shape, and doubled them up between the turbo and manifold....

I didn't have any leaks.....

also when I was looking for gasket material I wondered about using thin sheets of copper... and cutting them to shape. so long as both surfaces are decked, you'd think that a single layer or even two layers of a softer metal between the manifold\turbo or the turbo\downpipe would act as a decent if not proper gasket... wondered about brass too, but figured it was too soft.

yes sir! back in the Nashville area.... but for how long... who knows! once I get the mr2 back on the road I'll be heading back to miami... it's only 63 degrees right now and I'm dieing!!! I know... I know... suck it up!

I'm having alot of trouble getting this latest 3sfe to run... it's a 91 ecu and harness in my 93 car... but the guy I purchased the harness from said it had a map sensor... I'm hoping that will cure some problems when I get one.

didn't mean to alter the direction of this thread
