Gen1 That factory-alarm problem

Hey, this is my first post.

I have a 1989 MR2 Supercharged. Out of nowhere one day, I get into the car and all the signals flash for a minute or two. It makes a clicking sound like a turn signal. I wouldn't mind this problem if it didn't keep going as I was driving. If I am driving during the day with the dash lights off, they keep flashing and clicking, it's extremely annoying. When driving at night when the dash lights are on, they don't flash but still make that annoying clicking sound.

I've looked into the electrical diagrams but am unsure what components or what fuse box this can be found in (fuse box 2 I think). I've also heard that there is a grounding wire underneath the trunk carpet that can usually get wet or damaged that can cause this.

I've searched the forum and seen a few cases of this but non have been solved. I'd be happy with a temporary fix if it would just stop the dash flashing and clicking.

So what can I do about this factory-alarm problem? Has it ever been fixed?

Anyone know what electrical system this is part of or where I can find the fuses, or grounds that affect it?

Thanks.

Im not so sure your problem is a factory alarm. It sounds like it could be an after market alarm. If this is the case then when you check under the driver dash you will find the brain and wiring. If you can find fuses in the wiring near the brain you could pull them out but if not you should be able to disconnect the wiring harness from the brain.

sometimes after market alarms have an ignition kill option. I dont think you have that because when it starts flashing your car wouldn't start. but if you happen to have this you could just locate the wire on the cars ignition harness. this should be a black and white wire in the harness coming from the ignition switch. you will see were somone has cut this wire and attatched a wire to each side of it. what you want to do is just cut their wires off and reattach the black and white wire. you shouldnt have that problem so when you either remove the fuses or harness from the alrm your problem should be fixed
