i believe that you wont have to change the ecu at all i think all you have to do is correct the timing.

You can use the cams without touching the ECU. But it would be better to have it tuned to get the most out of the new set up.. Just make sure the cams are properly degree'd .

of course you don't actually have to touch the ecu. just unplug the connectors or undo the battery connections. there really isn't a 'tune' available for the ecu. true there are various piggy backs, but...
the Techtom upgrade doesn't really seem to work at all.

it depends on the duration of the cams.... anything over 272 you will need something better to control the fuel.....you will HAVE to reshim the head to the new cams... if you don't, you run the risk of spitting a shim and destroying the head.

hhmm..I didn't know that. Does that also apply to the 3sgte since it uses shimmed buckets?
And would that be neccessary for 264 or 268 cams?

yes. the 3sgte is also a shim under bucket. one should always check valve lash when changing camshafts.

anytime you change cams -- even stock for stock, you need to check the clearances... if you don't, you run serious risk of destroying something..... I'm lazy and that's the only reason my smallport 7age still has smallport cams in it... I have shims, I have early cams.... just don't wanna do all the clearances and screwing with the shims....

I always thought that that side of the cams would keep the neccessary clearances. Thanks for the enlightenment. I do plan on going either 264 or 268. I would have checked clearances, but this will keep me from possibly being shocked and unprepared to re-shim-....if needed.

No, it's not a shim under bucket, it's shim over bucket.

I knew what he meant. I've adjusted the valves before via shim change.
Are the shims of the 4age inside the underside of the buckets? Just curious...
