Trading my 7 in for an mr-2..

I am trading one of my rx-7's for an mr-2. I have not seen the car, owner contacted me thru the rx7club.com He was giving me details about the car. Told me that it has a newly rebuilt engine with 0 miles, never been started. There seems to be no spark, anyone have any ideas what that could be? He said it could be anything. Also, i was wondering if anyone could come take a look at it and possibly figure out what's wrong with it. I would make it worth their while ($). Located in Mississauga.

I was thinking, since it has no spark, could it be the distributor?

Is it a MKI or MKII?

If its a MKII, I have a MR2 shop manual on CD. You can perform those tests as outlined on the manual.

It can be various of things. Distributor can be one.

Located in Mississauga as well.

trace the problem back from the plug,

wires, check the inside of the dizzy cap, clean off the contacts with some sandpaper, check if the ignition coil itself will give a spark, if not,(if there's power to it) then that's probably your problem, (or the ignitor)

if you get a haynes manual, which you shoudl for such an old car, it'll outline the procedure to test the coil, and give the acceptable values range

i guess the first thing is to check and make sure you are getting decent current from the ignition coil... .. did you touch the distributor cap? maybe its 90 degree out of phase?
