No. The back should be wider than the front.
You should go 205/17 40 series front and 225/17/40 rear. This will throw your speedo off by only 3mph

yea because the stock rims i have are 195/60/14 and the rear are 205/60/14

so i could put 205 on the fronts, whats the biggest on the width i could go on the rear besides 225?

so those sizes would fit on 17x7 rims right

235 on a 7" wide rim is the max the rim can safely hold.

Not for only a 7" wide rim. Offset makes all the difference. They will probably be tucked. You do want a wider stance in the rear. MR2's are meant to be that way.

I meant that the distance between the rear wheels needs to be greater than the distance between the front wheels.

the toyo rep told me 215 was the widest i could go on the rears on my 17x7 rims. to up the sidewall to a 45 series to safely fit the 225's i have on there now. though i ended up with yokohama parada's lol 205.40 in the front and 225.45 in the rear. im not saying anyones wrong, just what I was told. /shrug

I have a friend that owns a GoodYear Tire. He tells me that 235 is the widest that can go on a 7" wide rim.He also has brochures with a listing of many tires and the rim widths they fit..
I have 235/40 on my rears now. Though they fit and are safe, the 7"" rim doesn't really spread the tire out the way it should be. So essentially, you are right. I would not go over 225 on a 7" rim. I plan on getting 17 x 7" with 215/40 in the front and 17 x 9" 245/40 in the rear.
