Mr2 Swapping Need info

Im thinking about buying an 91 mr 2 nt and swapping engines to make it turbo but i hear turbos are really hard to maintain. Maybe i should supercharge? Does supercharge still make that hissing sound? and if i swap engines isnt it basically a brand new car?

I would go with a gen 3 J-sepc 3sgte motor(turbo). Best of the best and easy to swap jsut need to find a swap guide which if you go to mr2.com and look for the mr2 board, you can find everything there. I know because I was looknig at all that a long time ago, but decided to keep my camry(V6). Now you can also swap a 1mz or 3vz-fe motor into the mr2 and that you can find in a lot of places. They even twin charged one in import tuner. Just look around and you'll find what you need. In the end it all comes down to $$$$ and preference! Good luck!

Just buy a MR2 Turbo and forget the swapping bullshit.

supercharging a MK2 isn't worth it. Lots of people have looked into it, and it would work, but isn't financially viable at this point. Especially when doing a turbo is so easy. Another option is to turbo your 5sfe. Burien Toyota in Washington, a guy named Ray has done plenty of them. 15psi daily with no problems. He has a 93NA with a turbo kit and he loves it.

Personally I sold my 91NA to buy a 93T. Just ended up being cheaper in the long run, and I'm happy with my decision.
