Turbo questions

I have a 91 with the 5sfe. My 5sfe has a fierce knock lol. My question is that I'm going to be rebuilding my 5sfe with the intentions of adding a turbo soon. Is there anything I should be aware of while rebuilding my motor? Should I upgrade some of the internals to be sure It can support a turbo? Also if anyone has any tips at all on rebuilding this motor as I have never built a motor before. I have an experienced friend helping me but any hint or tips for this engine would be helpful. thank you!

there aren't many successful 5SFE turbo kits for a reason...they don't last...most ppls just to a 3SGTE swap...

ASG14 has a RipMods Supercharger for the 5sfe for sale in the For Sale section.

Your best bet is to get a 3SGTE. You can turbo a 5SFE but as noted, it's not particularly reliable. You can also keep your existing 5S block and add a 3SGTE head which will result in a 2.2L turbo... that's the "best" route in my opinion.

If you decide to just turbo the 5SFE, you need to keep the boost down to a low level on stock internals. It's also a lot more complicated than a straight 3S swap.
