5sfe

Couple questions for the mr2 guys. Is there a difference between camrys 5sfe and mr2s? How much psi can the 5sfe withstand on stock internals and where can i buy internals for it?

How to Turbo the Camry - 5s-fTe tips and information suggest that as a start and posing this question in the camry gen 3 & 4 section.

The 5S block is a beast and can take just about anything you can throw at it. Ditto the camshaft. I'm not sure about the stock rods and pistons.

There are some differences between MR2 and Camry 5SFEs but whether or not they will affect you depends on your goal.

What do you have now and what are you going to try to do?

a stock 5sfe can hold about 8-10psi and maybe more on a good tune. I have been lookin at internals on ebay and such because I was thinking about doin a 5sfte.

Yeah, you can use most of the same parts as the MR2s. You'll be in luck because you have a lot more room in your engine bay.

The transmissions are almost the same. As I recall, the only difference is the location of the linkage mounting. FF have it on the rear of the tranny because the driver sits behind the engine; in a MR layout the linkage is in front because that's where the driver sits. This can be modified so you can use either type of tranny on either layout.

The 5SFE transmission probably cannot handle turbo power levels, at least not for too long. Look for a E153 transmission out of the turbo MR2s. You'll need to modify the linkage mount like I mentioned before.

The "break point" of the S53 transmission seems to be around 300whp. I'd bet the motor blows up before that. :P

Depending on what year camry, the 5sfe will be different. Does it really make a difference? No. But later camrys had slightly different displacement.

theres a few 5sfe turbo MR2 guys, but not many, its much easier to go 3sgte or v6 in the case of the mr2

You could build an economical 5SFTE for the price of a cheap 3SGTE but you really limit your room to grow. If you think you'll be satisfied with 200whp, the 5SFTE seems like a decent choice. Otherwise you want to buy and start modding a 3SGTE (or a V6 as mentioned above... but anybody who should be doing a V6 swap will suggest it themselves rather than have it suggested to them).
