Is this an NA to Turbo swap? Are you using a '93+ engine? If so... you probably need to buy all of the parts to convert your electronic tranny sensor to mechanical. If not.... I'd start with buying new speedo cables... and go from there.

Speedometer on 91 turbos is via a mechanical cable from the tranny to the cluster. The problem is somewhere between those three components (sender on the tranny, cable, or cluster). I haven't seen my MR2 for four months but I recall the redline being 6800 RPM.

If your speedo worked before.... I would say it's the sensor on the tranny.

Sensor is the thing with the wires sticking out of the tranny just a little to the right of the red mount.

JDM shouldn't matter.

@mr2bad: see, I don't get to drive my mr2 and I start thining it can rev lower than it really can....

i think 91 was cable driven speedo and
92+ the speedo was the electronic speedo

i got a 91 car and im guessing my trany is from 92+
is there any way i can get something to convert it to work or will i have to get a new cluster and wires?

The transmission is the same regardless if you have electronic or mechanical sender. They both screw into the same spot on the tranny. If you have a '91 cluster, you have a mechanical cable and should find a mechanical sender. They will be cheaper than the "Cable X" and probably more accurate.
