Unhappy Coolant leaking problem!

Lately my mr2's been leaking coolant, but heres the problem.. it only leaks sometimes! Sometimes it'd just run fine without leaking anything and others it'd just leak everything and overheats. From what i can see, it leaking from somewhere around the top of my dump pipe. Any ideas?! Thanks.

I will assume you have a turbo model-
The only source I can think of in that area is the HFH....(hose from hell) which is underneath the turbo.

ok now its pretty much leaking all the time. once i start the car it will start leaking after about a minute but it keeps on leaking even when i turn it off. Yeh its a 3sgte. Is the HFH hard to get to? And also whats the chances of it coming from a pipeline to cool the turbo?

Those lines are visible from topside. So, if thats the source of leak, it should be visibly obvious.
The HFH got it's name for a reason. You will have to remove DP to get to it.. I find it easier to remove the the tube that goes to the oil cooler to change the hose.

Most likely its gonna be the HFH. And like he said there is a reason its called that. Its a PITA. If you have someone around that can help you that has done it before then that would also help. Is this a stock DP. Because that can also be a PITA to get off.

Yeah, if you're running the stock DP/primary cat, you might wanna soak the bolts with some WD40 or something of that nature. They are likely to be rusted.

Thanks alot guys. Im pretty sure its a aftermarket dp. Would a be able to get to and replace the HFH just by removing the oil cooler tube? And how do i get to that tube?

No. You'll have to go from underneath the car. Oil cooler is at base of filter.

Have you replaced the hose before MR2BAD? I've looked up articles relating the HFH and everyone seems to go from the top. Not sure which would be easier.. If i went from the top, what would i need to take out in order to get to it and what would i need to take out if i went from the bottom?

The top!? You gotta be kidding! I've never ever heard of going thru the top. Where did you read that?
Yes I have changed mine.
The HFH is a rubber hose beneath the exhaust manifold. It goes between the oil cooler and a steel
by pass tube that runs along the top of the engine block towards #4 cyl.
Go thru the top= besides being almost impossible to reach from the top,you would have to remove the strut tower bar, DP, IC hot pipe, heat shield, turbocharger, water lines to turbo, oil lines to turbo, and exhaust manifold, then change the hose and put it all back together.
From the bottom=remove Plastic undershield,DP, and it helps to remove the turbo stay and water line to oil cooler. Change hose.

lol when you put it that way it sounds much easier from the bottom. Il start from the bottom and take it from there. Apparently ppl do go from the too lol the article was from here (http://www.mrtwo.net/mr2modproject/service/hfh/hfh.htm)

In that article, the engine not even in the car! If that the case, it very easy. I thought yours was still in the engine bay.

Hey hey hey...if you're willing to do the work from the top isn't all that bad. It'll take all day, but you'll like yourself afterwards...

I pulled my oil cooler, DP, dipstick and the dipstick tube and bracket and I could get to it from the top...

Just make sure to lubricate the hose with a tiny bit of oil or even soap and it wont be all that hard. It's an experience worth experiencing...def not fun at all though.

Didnt you have to remove the exhaust manifold snowrocker?

Ive removed the front exhaust from the bottom and realized my dp is still stock! The bolts are fully rusted! While removing 1 of the 5 bolts that secure the dp, it snapped in half even after soaking it with WD. Any ideas or tips on what I should do? I love working on my car and taking things apart and putting them back together but rusted bolts just takes the fun out of everything!
