How to inspect a used engine

Well theirs a local selling gze engine for 350 only thing missing is headers. It has been sitting for a while and the flywheel is looking brown in a way. I was able to drop it to 300, but i would like to know how do i inspect the engine? also how do i test if the supercharger is still good?

Turn the crank to make sure piston aren't locked up. If the belts are still in place you can check if valves and supercharger still turn also. Look for cracks in the head and block.
The flywheel can be resurfaced and brought back to life.
I would expect to do a complete rebuild.

the flywheel.... who cares....

first things first.... look to see if there seems to be excessive rust or corrosion on the block.... if so, may not be a good sign....

pull the valve cover -- check to see what it looks like internally.....

check the oil (if any in it).....

check the s/c oil -- hope there's still some in it

you can't just spin the s/c to see if it works -- it has a clutch on it so when turned off it will just freespin (giving you a false sense that it's working).... by hand you can rotate the center portion of the pulley in order to actually rotate to rotors.... if all of the piping is there it may be slightly difficult to rotate

take a 17mm and a 19mm (not all 4ag's are alike) socket and a wrench... turn the motor by hand (make sure the flywheel is off the ground).....

that's about all you can do.... for $300 it isn't a bad price even if it needs a mild rebuild
