actually that's a pretty incorrect statement....
for the most part the limiters are set based on the how the ecu and valvetrain are tuned -- and also kept in mind in terms of the engine being widely used....
Most toyota motors that use a belt are non interference -- so if something were to go wrong, no big deal. Usually what actually is a better reason not to rev higher is because there just isn't power.... the engine will start to drop off in power and then after that, will have valve float problems..... but still isn't a huge issue.
my smallport 4age in my ae92 has been running to 7800 all the time (factory on the ecu I have is 6200 and factory on the 4age is around 7200) without a problem -- in fact, in 100% stock trim the 4age's make power to around 8,000 and I would guess won't see valve float until around 8,500.
However, if the OP is having a problem with a limiter at 5,000 rpm then there
is a problem -- something is causing you to be limited lower than the actual limiter. Figure out the problem before you try to remove stuff.
In toyota ECU's it isn't simple to remove the limiter. I'm sure you could pay some rediculous amount of money for an aftermarket unit, but there are other ways.
