stock cd player problem

I just got a 91 MR2 NA and the speakers are crap but initially id like to figure out my cd player. I brought a cd over to the previous owners car the day i bought it and when i was driving it home i popped the cd in and it only played on the driver side speakers (with an exception of very low sound on one passenger side speaker with the balance all the way over).

The radio play on both sides. Local stereo place said its the wiring from the cd to the cassette and needs a whole new deck ($500-600). Kind of a lot... Anyone know about this problem/easy way to fix it? Thanks a lot.

Unhappy

Alright if no one has heard of this problem then could someone tell me how to take the cd player out? I unscrewed the nuts behind the ashtray but that didn't seem to do it. Thanks

since i went through the fun of putting a new head unit in, I can tell u this. Just buy a after markert cd player, apline, kenwood, pioneer, something of the sort and put one of those in. When you do this just rewire the car with better speaker wire and get new door speakers, your system will sound a whole lot better. The cost of the headunit will be about $200 or less, and u can get a set of speakers for $100, speaker wire like 5 bucks. It takes some time but you will be alot happier. Do you have to stock sub? thats my only question cause if u rewire it u will lose the sub. I'm not sure what you are going for though, but I like bass so if u rewire just get a sub or two and ull have a decent set-up. Sry if ur confused.

But u dont need to spend $500... thats for sure

Yeah I would jsut like to have a nice sound. Nothing crazy, no subs necessary.

Im unsure on how to get the framing off to take out the head unit.

I was just wondering it there was cheaper way i could get both sides to play with the original cd player (just some wiring) but I guess not?

Thanks

Make it easy on yourself.

No offense, but you don't sound like the kind of person that should even get close to touching the wiring of your car. Take it to a trustworthy stereo shop, and tell them that you want it rewired with higher end speaker wires. They will probably recommend a new stereo though. $500 is a rediculous price.

It seems like no one here knows how to take off the frame to get to the damn cd player....

Yes I can change the speaker wire.... If I could only get to the cd player....

Does not knowing how to take the framing off the cd player on a new car I got a week ago which I am unfamiliar with make me someone who shouldn't get close to the wiring?

Did anything I say tell you that I shouldnt mangle with the wiring? I have plenty of experience with head units and wiring.

Clam yourself!

Dont give yourself a heart attack now. I think you failed to read the no offense portion of my statement. I have no clue how to take it off.... mine came with an aftermarket head unit. BTW, it took me almost a week to figure out how to open the engine compartment (the handle was hidden behind a speaker box), so I am not really one to talk. I know on my supra you have to take the ash tray out and pull the screws out of there, but I have yet had problems with my MR2 stereo. Sorry.

are u talking about how to get the dash peices off to get the headunit out???

If thats so theres like 2 screws where u take out the change holder, or ash tray w/e... u take the out and take off the shift knob..and the surrounding dash peice and it all like pops out, make sure theres no hidding screws i forgot, not sure on ur year either.
