Help with 85 MR2 radio brackets

Hello, this is my first post here.

I am finally installing a new stereo system after listening to piece of crap for 15 years. The stereo was falling out and the dash surround where the radio was is broken. After some investigation it seems the radio is supposed to mounted with mounting brackets and the mounting brackets are supposed to be attached to the car. The stereo in mine was just hanging from the plastic surround and obviously that's a quick-and-dirty way to install it. I think the previous owner did this so he could reuse a better stereo in another car.

So I bought these radio mounting brackets on eBay and they allegedly fit 85 to 89 MR2s:

So now my problem is that I haven't got a clue how these mount to the radio and into the dash. I've spent too much time trying every possible way. Is it possible that these don't fit an 85 MR2 and are for another year?

Thanks for your responses!

From MR2OC:
"Your Toyota dealer sells metal (2-left and right side) aftermarket radio install brackets for the Mr2 Mk1. They run about $12 each side. I just bought a set for my Mr2 SC last month from the dealer.(Side note: Also bought similar brackets from the dealer for my 86 Toyota pickup about 6 months ago, so they DO STOCK THEM!)These are much better than the cheap ass plastic kits Metra brand (aftermarket) sold at Fry's/Best Buy etc.
I beleive the Toyota part number for the Mr2 Mk1 brackets are:
86211-17030 and 86212-17030 Left and Right side. (Bracket, Radio RE)"

Thanks for your response.

Then the brackets must fit my 85 MR2 because the part numbers match the ones you quoted. I do have the brackets in my possession and I took the pics that are posted and those numbers are visible. Does the 86 in the part numbers mean it for the 86 model year? I don't know how to read Toyota part numbers.

The problem is I can't figure out how the brackets mount the stereo into the dash. And I have spent considerable time trying. I did notice that the Metra brand mounts have a different configuration for 87 - 89 than for 85 - 86.

I have ordered the Metra kit. It may be cheap ass, but it I hope it will be better than hanging the stereo from the plastic dash surround.

The brackets in the first post are for 87-89, they are not the same as 85-86.

(87-89 was 2-DIN, 85-86 was 1-DIN).

Won't work for you in an 85.

86212-17010 and 86211-17010 are the 85-86 brackets.

I have a rare set of 85/86 brackets for sale but they are not cheap $50 shipped.
