You've been gone for over 2 years!
So what was the story with the 1st gen? Why did the cops get it?
There's alot of info here on swaps. Do a search then come back with any unanswered questions or tips to ease the swap.
Welcome back!

make sure you get everything you need BEFORE you start you swap, i think my mr2 was off the road for a good six months, waiting on this or that. If your going from NA to turbo, your going to need to swap the axles and wheel hubs, or hit up CRW for some machined axles that will fit the NA wheel hubs, your gonna need fuel pump as well. most everything else is strait forward, engine, ecu, uncut harness, tranny, intercooler, exhaust. make sure to read the power primer in the stickys up top, and if you get a gen3 combo, make sure its a LSD tranny ^^

2nd Generation mr-toot

the first gen got taken because i "accidentally" ran a red light with a cop sittn at the intersection..and my insurance had expired a month earlier and i forgot all about it.....they wanted $1500 to get my car out of impound. i only paid $400 for the car..and a $10 sticker on the back window that said "show me your tits!!"

i am currently looking at a 91 mr2 non turbo.....it has a widebody kit installed but the car doesnt run...the kid says it needs an ecu...he said it was driving fine , he shut it off and then wouldnt start again... i know im taking a risk buying a non running car...but im thinking i can get it for a steal..
i am a mechanic and my job is to make broken shit working again....but i just dont know..especially when some kid jumps to sayn he needs an ecu...y wouldnt he just replace it? i dont know i need some advice on that .... i also have been looking at a few others so the non running one is not my only option.

Understood.. What makes this kid think it's the ECU?
He shut it off and it wouldn't start again? Hhmmm? I bet it's something else and NOT the ECU..

i didnt get to into it much talking about it ..this is a kid off of craigslist..he was told it was the ecu... i believe it could be something else...possibly a really bad ground..i ran into this problem before with a 240sx...but yes i dont believe it is the ecu...

the story he told me when i talked to him briefly was that he was driving around with his gf...the car was driving fine...he stopped at his house came back out 15min later and it wouldnt start...he told me he heard no unusual noises while driving and no "big bang"... apparently someone in his family "claims" to know about cars and they told him he needed the ecu.
