This has been a project in our New Zealand garage for a bit over 12 months now, so here is a brief update.
Bought a cheap MRS as a donor car (we also bought a real tidy Red one to make the body moulds off, that we then sold again)
& stripped it out
right out (like every possible nut & bolt
then we cut some holes for the new engine
Meantime we were getting moulds & panels made
made moulds & articles off all the panels (bumpers front& rear guards, doors, bonnet, boot & hardtop)
Meanwhile, engine wise, we were converting this
into this
And with Carillo rods, JE Pistons & a whole load of other goodies from APE raceparts in USA, we are aiming for 400hp from the Suzuki Hayabusa Turbo engine.
to go in here
then add in a roll cage
a very comprehensive one
and a quick mock up of body panels to weigh the car. Bodyshell incl. rollcage, most panels, engine, gearbox, diff, seat & controls, suspension arms, shocks etc = 416kg (still needs wheels, brakes & all plumbing etc etc)
Finally about a year down the track it finally sits on its own wheels & suspension for the first time
Then another mock-up with its bodypanels including BA Falcon V8 Supercar front splitter etc
More enthusiasm gets generated as it gets closer & closer to being finished, so I will try to keep the thread updated regularly as we gat closer to finishing this 400hp, 600kg Weapon....
We are going to use a GT30 Turbo. One of the reasons is that we also run a DX Corolla with a 7A-GTE 20 valve engine which uses a GT30, so we can carry one spare for the two cars...
That would absolutely make an incredible hillclimb car. Looking forward to videos. Congrats on a very cool project.
Where in NZ are you? I am from North Shore City.

Not a lot of visable progress on the car at this stage. One engine is away having all the go-fast internals bits installed, the other is away having the exhaust manifold & intake/plenum finished. Brake parts & adjustable sway bars at at the engineers having final modifications completed. Most of the welding on the chassis is finished, roll cage all finally approved & the chassis is not far away from being ready for painting.
Meantime all the body work has been completed & moulds made etc. The wheel arches in the guards have each been raised about 50mm & widened about 35mm (per side) but we have kept them standard looking. The front splitter/air dam is from a BA Falcon V8 Supercar, the bonnet vents to let the radiator air out are from a Ford GT40. The spare body has just some back from the signwriters yesterday....
sah-wheat! ......damn lol the trailor has alloys! lol
Yap, some even have 16s or 17s on their trailers here.

Still not much progress at this stage. Waiting on an engineer to finish the sway bar controls & mounts for the cockpit & then the bodyshell can be painted. Still waiting on the engine man to finish his part as well.....
Meantime the 'car' you see is actually just one set of bodypanels put together as a sign out the front of our workshop. But is exactly what the racecar will look like....
