diffence between USDM and JDM 3sgte motors

im wondering if you guys could tell me what is different between the two motors that makes the USDM have 200hp and the JDM have 225HP? and then theres a later JDM 3sgte motor with 245hp? what is different between the motors? how do you know which JDM motor comes from which car?

thanks for the help

the 2nd Gen 3s-gte comes with a ceramic turbine blades. The 3rd Gen which is the 245hp'er has a CT20B turbo. The JDM motors also doesnt have any of the egr system the USDM motor has. The Head are the same on the 2nd JDM and USDM motors; (i.e shim on top, big port small runners, multi runner set up, TVIS, and basically the same intake plenium). While the 3rd Gen has small port, big runners, shim under buckets, Roundish intake plenium, alittle more agressive cams, MAP sensor ( instead of maf thats found on the 2nd gens), High boost setting 12psi (instead of 7psi), fuel cut is at 19psi, bigger port for water and oil, and doesnt seem to have the issues of head gaskets. Thats pretty much what I remember off the top of my head.

Hope this helps...

Plus the JDM fuel is higher octane allowing different timing setup before detonation.

hmm ok. so let me see if i got this right:
1. the only difference between Gen2 usdms and jdms is the turbos?
2. the difference between the jdm gen 2 and jdm gen3 is the turbo and a more agressive head? whats the difference between a maf and a map? thanks for the help guys.

Both came stock, I believe, you might want to double check my info regarding MR2s because I just really starting studing up on 'em!

The LSD isn't so much a part of the engine... more of the way of laying down the 3S's Power.

true, but one has 45 more HP, which may have warranted an LSD, plus JDM always gets the good stuff

Actually all of the 3rd gen 3sgtes did come with LSD. It was optional on the 2nd gen's though.

EDIT: Wow... old thread. Why the hell did you bump this specific thread with a WTB for a Supra. noob

The 3rd Gen's cooling passages and head gasket also differ from the previous generations. IIRC, some people were having issues with certain HKS head gaskets because they were designed closer to that of the 3rd gen's specs. This caused the head gasket to not line up with the factory drilled 3S-GE, 1st and 2nd gen 3S-GTE, and certain 5S-FE blocks.

AND....AND for the USDM engines the oil filter is next to the turbo whereas for the 3rd gen JDM engines, the oil filter is near the oil pan underneath.....
